Role Overview
Streetcraft is looking for a Story Producer who loves understanding how streets and cities work and turning complex technical topics into engaging scripts. This is a contract-based creative role focused on developing videos for social media, organizations, and cities.
What You Will Do
Explore and pitch story ideas
Recognize when a project is more than just “another resurfacing” and has real narrative potential. This might come from news articles, city plans, or your own observations.Write scripts
Create clear story arcs that translate complex concepts (like curb extensions or road diets) into language a general audience can understand.Think visually
Provide visual guidance that supports the script, such as indicating where diagrams, maps, before and after scenes, or explanatory graphics would be helpful.Research deeply
Gather context from city documents, maps, and planning PDFs to ensure accuracy.Ask good questions
If a redesign proposal removes parking, you might ask why. If an intersection is unsafe, you might ask how it could be improved. Curiosity is part of the job!
What You Will Need
Experience writing narrative or explainer-style content
This could come from documentary work, journalism, podcast producing, educational YouTube, or a similar field.Conceptual understanding of transportation & planning principles
You don’t need a degree, but you must understand the fundamentals of how streets work (especially in North America). You should be able to read a simple road plan without a step-by-step explanation. If you’ve studied enough Streetcraft videos, you’re on the right track!Tone adaptability
The ability to write in a clear, conversational voice that matches the existing Streetcraft style.Strong research and synthesis skills
Ability to gather information from multiple sources and shape it into a compelling story.

Compensation and Workload
This is a contract role paid via a monthly retainer.
Retainer:
$1,800 – $2,200 per month (depending on experience).Expected Output:
Average of 1 long-form deep dive script (8–12 mins) and 4–5 short-form scripts (~1 min) per month.Flexibility:
Workload may fluctuate, but we will collaborate to ensure the scope remains fair and consistent.
